Trajectory
Márcio José Honaiser was born on April 4, 1967 , in Carazinho, Rio Grande do Sul, but his political career is rooted in Maranhão, where he built a reputation as a manager, businessman, and long-time politician. A graduate in engineering, he also has experience in the education, construction, and agriculture sectors. Honaiser was active in the PDT party for many years, more than 30 years, and began his political involvement at a young age, having been a leader of the PDT Youth and holding executive positions in the state government.
His political career in Maranhão includes election as a state representative and appointments to two state secretariats: he was Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Flávio Dino's first government, where he worked on policies aimed at small producers and programs such as Agropolos and "Mais Produção," with strong dialogue with entities in the agricultural sector. Following that, he was Secretary of Social Development for the State until December 2021, when he left the position to run for federal office. In 2022, he was elected federal deputy for Maranhão, assuming office in February 2023, with 54,547 votes.
In the National Congress, Honaiser has demonstrated active parliamentary performance. In 2025, he registered 121 proposals of authorship and 16 reported on . He assumed the roles of party vice-leader, including vice-leader of the PDT and the Majority bloc among allied parties, showing capacity for articulation within the political base. Among the bills he proposed, some deserve highlighting: PL 3351/2025, which amends Law No. 14,790/2023 to prohibit the public sector from contracting with fixed-odds betting companies, as well as prohibiting advertising of these bets at events or on uniforms paid for with public funds; also PLP 95/2024, which seeks to prohibit limitations on the commitment and financial movement of expenses related to agricultural defense; in addition to PL 1039/2023, which aims to stimulate public policies for people with disabilities; and Bill 639/2025, which amends the Sexual Violence Law (Law 12.845/2013) to create Centers for Assistance to Victims of Sexual Violence (CAVVS) and implement a national computerized system for monitoring cases in the SUS (Unified Health System). He also spoke prominently in plenary on symbolic occasions, such as when honoring Down Syndrome Day by appealing for inclusion, marked by his emotional speech with his daughter Maria Helena present.
