Trajectory
Marcelo Castro is a Brazilian politician with an academic background in psychiatry.
His political career began in 1978 when he ran for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Piauí, but was not elected. However, in 1982, he managed to be elected state deputy and remained in that position for two more terms.
During Mão Santa's first term as governor, Marcelo Castro presided over the Institute of Assistance and Social Security of the State of Piauí (IAPEP). In 1998, he was elected federal deputy. During Mão Santa's second term, Marcelo Castro served as Secretary of Agriculture and, in 2002, was re-elected to the position of federal deputy, where he remained for three more terms.
In 2014, Marcelo Castro ran for and was elected to the Senate. He also served as Minister of Health during President Dilma Rousseff's second term. Marcelo Castro currently holds the position of First Vice-Leader of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) in the Federal Senate.
Acknowledgements
Marcelo Castro received the Parliamentary Excellence Award in 2023 from the Ranking of Politicians , with a score of 7.31 points, making him the 2nd best parliamentarian in Piauí and 86th in the overall ranking.
