Trajectory
Luiz de França e Silva Meira, better known as Colonel Meira , was born on January 7, 1958, in Camaragibe (PE) and is a military police officer by training, with a career in public security before entering politics. Affiliated with the Liberal Party (PL) , he was elected federal deputy for the state of Pernambuco in the 2022 elections and currently serves his term in the 2023–2027 legislature in the House of Representatives .
In his political career, Colonel Meira has previously run for elected office, such as state representative in 2010, federal representative in 2018, and city councilor in Recife in 2020, without success, before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 with 78,941 votes . He was also appointed deputy leader of the PL in the House of Representatives and held deputy leadership positions in blocs such as the Opposition and Minority throughout 2023-2025 , being an active voice on public security issues, rights, and critical action on legal and institutional matters.
In Congress, Colonel Meira participates in legislative activities as a full member of parliament and is present on several committees. He was the 1st vice-president of the Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Committee , and is a member of committees such as Health , Defense of the Rights of the Elderly , Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development , and others as an alternate member. According to official data from 2025, he has more than 330 proposals of his own authorship and about 18 of his own report registered in the House of Representatives. Among the projects he presented are initiatives such as PL 1688/2025 , which recognizes Court Officers as a specific professional category; PL 724/2025 , which introduces the crime of narcoterrorism into the legal system; and PL 844/2025 , which ensures medical and psychological assistance to women imprisoned as a result of the acts of January 8, 2023.
