Trajectory
Luiz Antônio de Souza Teixeira Júnior, better known as Doctor Luizinho, was born on December 15, 1973, in Nova Iguaçu, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. He holds degrees in Medicine, specializing in orthopedics and traumatology, with a specialization in sports and exercise medicine, and an Executive MBA in Health from UFRJ (Coppead). Before assuming an elected position, he served as the municipal Secretary of Health for Nova Iguaçu between 2013 and 2015, and from 2016 to 2018 he held the position of Secretary of State for Health for the state of Rio de Janeiro.
In his political career, Luizinho was elected federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro in 2018 and took office on February 1, 2019. He was re-elected in 2022 for the 2023-2027 legislature, remaining affiliated with the Progressistas (PP) party. He also held leadership positions: he became the PP leader in the House of Representatives, and has served as deputy leader of party blocs.
In the National Congress, Dr. Luizinho focuses his work mainly on the areas of health, science and technology, and social security. He was president of the Social Security and Family Committee of the House of Representatives. He is a member of committees such as the Health Committee, and more recently the Science, Technology and Innovation Committee. In 2025, he is reported to have authored 307 proposals and reported on 2 projects. He chairs the Special Committee on PEC 014/21, which deals with health agents and the fight against endemic diseases.
Acknowledgements
Dr. Luizinho received the Parliamentary Excellence Award from the 2025 Ranking of Politicians , being the 3rd best parliamentarian in Minas Gerais and 37th in the overall ranking.
