Trajectory
José Wellington Roberto was born on May 19, 1959, in São José de Piranhas, Paraíba . A businessman by profession, he entered politics at a young age and built a solid career as a federal congressman. Affiliated with the Liberal Party (PL) , he was first elected federal deputy for Paraíba in 2002 and has held consecutive terms since then, currently serving in the 2023–2027 legislature of the House of Representatives . Furthermore, before consolidating his position in the House of Representatives, he served as a senator after assuming a seat through permanent appointment in the late 1990s.
His political career in Congress is marked by participation in various party blocs and leadership roles, including stints as deputy leader and leader of the PL in the House of Representatives at different times, which placed him in strategic positions within the allied base in Parliament. He also served on numerous permanent committees throughout his career, such as the Finance and Taxation Committee (CFT) and the Financial Oversight and Control Committee (CFFC) , in addition to acting as an alternate or full member on committees such as Mines and Energy and on special committees on various topics, as well as participating in Parliamentary Inquiry Commissions (CPIs).
In Congress, Wellington Roberto has consistently produced legislative proposals: in 2023, he authored 137 , and over the years he has also presented dozens of bills registered in the House of Representatives's system, in addition to at least one project reported in previous years. Examples of initiatives he has presented include Bill 5549/2025 , which names an overpass in the municipality of Cabedelo (PB), and Bill 5548/2025 , which proposes changes to the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) to regulate the processing of predictive health data by artificial intelligence systems, as well as projects such as Bill 3967/2023 , which names a public reservoir in the State of Paraíba, among other registered legislative proposals.
