Trajectory
José Antônio dos Santos Medeiros (known as José Medeiros ) was born on March 19, 1970, in Caicó (RN) . Before entering institutional politics, he was a Federal Highway Police officer , a mathematics teacher, and worked as a police and teaching leader. Medeiros also served as a senator for Mato Grosso between 2015 and 2019 , where he distinguished himself in committees such as Environment, Consumer Protection, and Oversight and Control , and won awards for his parliamentary performance.
In his political career , José Medeiros was elected federal deputy for Mato Grosso in 2018 by Podemos , being re-elected in 2022 by the Liberal Party (PL-MT) and currently serves his term in the 57th Legislature (2023–2027) in the House of Representatives. In Parliament, he served as vice-leader of the Government (2019–2023) and, subsequently, acted as vice-leader of the Minority and the Opposition at different times in 2025 , consolidating his political presence on issues of opposition to the federal government. Medeiros is a member of permanent and external committees, as a full member of the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development and an alternate member of committees such as Constitution and Justice and Finance and Taxation , in addition to participating in external crisis monitoring committees, such as the investigations into the Yanomami crisis and the Intervention in Public Health in Cuiabá.
In the National Congress , Medeiros is one of the most productive parliamentarians from Mato Grosso, having presented hundreds of proposals. Among the bills he has filed—focusing on economic issues, taxation, health services, and social regulation—are Bill 5327/2025 , which amends the Health Plan Law to provide for coverage of advanced antineoplastic therapies; Bill 6046/2025 , which amends the Income Tax Law to exclude certain expenses from the tax base for rentals; Bill 4570/2024 , which amends the Election Law to prohibit the dissemination of electoral polls; and Bill 6146/2023 , which amends the Public Finance Law. In addition to proposals such as Bill 3609/2023 , which amends the Statute of Children and Adolescents, Bill 5849/2023 on environmental licensing for nautical activities, Bill 35/2023 on tax exemption in the Simples Nacional (Simplified National Tax System), and Bill 42/2024 to regulate constitutional provisions, he is also the author of Bill 841/2023 , which inscribes the economist Roberto Campos in the Book of Heroes and Heroines of the Fatherland, approved by the House of Representatives.
