Trajectory
Gildenemir de Lima Sousa, politically known as Pastor Gil, was born on November 8, 1971, in São Luís, Maranhão. He is a journalist by training, having graduated from the Federal University of Maranhão. He also serves as a pastor in the Assembly of God church and was the general secretary of the State Convention of the Assembly of God in Maranhão (CEADEMA), one of the leadership positions in the state evangelical institution, before effectively entering politics.
His political career at the federal level began in 2018, when he was elected federal deputy for the state of Maranhão, representing the then PMN party, obtaining approximately 47,758 votes. He was re-elected in 2022, now with the PL party, with a higher vote count, reinforcing his support base in the state. Pastor Gil is part of coalitions of evangelical parties and his discourse focuses on religious values, family protection, morality and order, as well as social issues in Maranhão, especially in the areas of education, health, the elderly and infrastructure.
In the National Congress, Pastor Gil participates in permanent committees as a full member of the Committee for the Defense of the Rights of the Elderly and the Education Committee, in addition to being an alternate member of committees such as Foreign Relations and National Defense. In 2025, he authored 129 proposals and was the rapporteur for 7 projects, demonstrating significant legislative activity. Among the projects he proposed, initiatives such as Bill 1306/2024 stand out, aimed at amending FIES (Student Financing Fund), with the objective of facilitating access to the student loan program, reducing default rates, and creating incentives for low-income students; Pastor Gil was chosen as the rapporteur for this matter. Other proposals include Bill 1588/2024, authored by him, as well as bills related to consumer protection, such as Bill 1148/2025, which proposes stricter penalties for misleading or abusive advertising, and Bill 1147/2025, which seeks to make the disclosure of work schedules for health professionals in SUS units mandatory, making the unjustified absence of these professionals an act of misconduct.
