Trajectory
Alessandro Vieira is a Brazilian politician whose career is marked by his work in the Civil Police and his subsequent entry into politics.
He was appointed by the governor of Sergipe, Jackson Barreto, in February 2016 to head the Civil Police; however, he was dismissed from the position in April 2017 after initiating a process of arresting local corrupt individuals. This experience in public security may have influenced his subsequent political stance.
In 2018, Alessandro Vieira ran for senator for the Rede Sustentabilidade (REDE) party, on a ticket without a coalition. He disagreed with the party's position in the second round of the presidential elections, which suggested "no vote for Jair Bolsonaro," and declared his vote for the candidate, although he presented several criticisms of him. Subsequently, he migrated to the Partido Popular Socialista (PPS), which became Cidadania, assuming the presidency of the party in his state.
In 2020, Alessandro Vieira played a significant role in the Senate, with his proposal prioritizing the Unified Health System (SUS) in the acquisition and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines being unanimously approved. Furthermore, his Legislative Decree suspending the decision by the president of the Palmares Foundation to remove 29 names from the Foundation's List of Black Personalities was also approved by the Senate.
